I'm a cruel cruel person. My roommate went home this weekend to see her family for her sisters birthday. She acquired quite a taste for Nutella this summer, and I decided to make her some homemade, just in time for our body cleanse. I don't particularly like sweets so having a jar full of chocolatey hazelnut goodness around doesn't bother me. I didn't do it intentionally, being healthy just always slips my mind.
Anyway, here are the ingredients for this delicious smear:
100 g hazelnuts (3/4 cup)
145 g easy melt dark chocolate (the whole bar -4 pieces)
1/4 cup milk (I used 1%)
1/2 can of sweetened condensed milk
Measure out the hazelnuts.
Pour them onto a preheated skillet, at medium heat.
Let them roast for about 10 or 12 minutes.
Mean while, turn the double boiler on low-medium heat.
Measure out the chocolate.
Let the chocolate melt...
Pour the hazelnuts onto a plate to cool.
Try to get the as much of the skin off as possible.
Put the hazelnuts into a food processor, or in this case, a magic bullet.
Pulse until all the chunks are out...
... and you have this kind of hazelnut "butter."
The magic bullet was probably not the best thing to use for this, but it worked well enough.
While the hazelnuts are chopping, pour the condensed milk into the melted chocolate.
Mix it up!
Add the hazelnut mixture...
Add the 1/4 cup of milk.
Mix it all together...
Pour into a jar.
Enjoy!
It came out very well. Despite my disinterest in sweets, I did try some and it was much better than the store bought kind. I think having a food processor would have made the process much easier, but oh well. I hope my roommate enjoys it. Muaha.
